The Search | Inspiration

I recently had the privilege of going away for a few days with the staff team I get to work with at Linc Church, and being the adventurous team we are, we had planned some exciting Drakensberg fun.
We would begin with a nice and slow introduction to hiking, and head out to a local hotspot known as three pools. It was known to be an easy, fun, and family friendly hike and so it would be perfect to get the blood flowing.
To cut a long story short… two hours later, a few of healthy ‘discussions’, and way too much sun, and we were no where near three pools. A walk that should have taken 30 minutes was now going on two hours.
Can you say problem?
We were fortunate enough to walk by some avid hikers who pointed us in the right direction and gave us some much needed confidence to keep moving, and so we did.
When we did eventually arrive at three pools we realized that we had virtually walked straight past it some hour and a half earlier, and had literally been going round in circles ever since. Needless to say, the team had a lot to say about my navigation skills.
This made for some great laughs together, but it also gave me food for thought as I lay in bed that night. I mean Isn’t this exactly what life can often look like. We set our hearts in search of something great, only to wake up and find ourselves walking in circles with nothing to show for it.
We go in search of identity, purpose, significance, meaning, love… the list goes on.
But it’s as if were looking for the answers in all the wrong places, when in actual fact the answer is closer than we think. It’s as if we spend our lives walking according to our preference and good pleasure, where the best results may just lie in seeking direction from the experts.
In 1 John 2:17 it says it like this, “And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.” What if the answer to this search we’re on daily, lies not in what we know but who we know. And what if what you’ve been looking for all this time is closer than you think.
Imagine if today we would pause for just a moment, look beyond our agenda, and start searching for answers in right place. I believe God wants your best, and I believe He is committed to showing you your next step, if only you would trust in Him and His ways.
May today be that day.
